Kroger has returned with more digital coupons offering 4x fuel points on third party gift cards and fixed-value Visa and Mastercard gift cards. This is valid for online gift card purchases as well, with no coupon needed. Like most Kroger 4x sales, this is valid for the entire weekend.

Quick Thoughts
When buying third party gift cards, earning 4x fuel points means you can save up to 14% on gas. To give an example of how that 14% figure is calculated, let’s say you spend $250 on gift cards during the promotion. That would earn you 1,000 fuel points which can be redeemed for $1 off per gallon on up to 35 gallons. If you’re able to refuel to that 35 gallon limit (perhaps with either a large gas tank or refueling 2+ household vehicles at the same time), you’d save $35. Saving $35 based on that original $250 of gift card spend works out to be a 14% discount.
If your gas tank is smaller though, your savings won’t be as high as that. For example, our car takes – at most – 12 gallons, so we can barely save 5% on gas through these kinds of promotions based on what we spend on gift cards. You can often get better discounts on gift cards through places like Raise, so weigh up all your options before buying them at full price from Kroger or one of its affiliate stores like Dillons, King Soopers, Ralphs, Fry’s or Smith’s.
You can earn 4x fuel points on gift cards purchased online or in-store, although there are a couple of differences between the two that are important to note. If you’ll be buying in-store, you have to load the digital coupons to your account first, whereas you’ll automatically earn 4x fuel points when buying gift cards from Kroger online.
The other thing to bear in mind is that buying the gift cards in-store means you can take advantage of the plethora of cards offering bonused spend at grocery stores right now. Kroger’s online gift card site has its payments processed by Blackhawk Network (owner of GiftCardMall and GiftCards.com), so those online orders don’t code as grocery purchases.

This has been stacking great with the +5X grocery referral bonus on AMEX cards for in-store gift card purchases! I’ve been able to find Holland America and Carnival cruise line gift cards in our local stores to pay for the remaining parts of our “free” cruise offers. In total ends up being about a 15% – 20% discount all told with the BCP card plus the fuel points.
Full points redemption in different states???
I just was in Tennessee and they allowed me the option of redeeming all 2000 of my point s.
Do you know of ANY other krogers in different states.that allow this? Michigan? Illinois? Or.whoever
It seems to actually be based on city rather than state. e.g. Richmond, VA lets you use the full value of your points, but other cities in Virginia don’t.
Waiting until July 1 to buy the gift cards is also a good idea if you are using the Chase Freedom card to purchase since grocery stores earn 5x spend for 3rd quarter spend.

You should write a blog about how Kroger cut the earning of fuel points on prescriptions in half on April 1 2021 without any notification.

Can I use this coupon on more than one trip/day during the time period? Mine seems to say “redeemed” after one use but I’ve never been sure if I could actually use it again.
Yep, unless they’ve changed things for this specific promotion, you’ve always been able to earn 4x fuel points on more than one purchase.
They sometimes other types of digital coupons for gift cards (e.g. buy two Happy gift cards totaling $50+ & get $5 off) – those usually have a limit of one. However, 4x promos are always unlimited.
“Refueling 2+ household vehicles at the same time” violates Kroger’s program T&Cs.

We’ve lined up as many as four cars at the end of the month to use up expiring points. Two and sometimes three cars is a regular thing.
Never been an issue. The way i do it is not by lining the cars, but parking the cars on each side of the pomp
Just another point to consider is that even if you max out the 35 gallon limit, you have to take the opportunity cost of filling up at this FR station vs a cheaper station nearby. Personally, I find Shell to be far more expensive sometimes 30 cents more. For most people you’ll still come out ahead but it does make the margins slimmer.
I wonder how this will interact with Kroger’s triple points on weekends for the next couple of weekends.
I think the triple points are only earned on groceries, so these promos will run independently of each other and so it won’t be possible to stack the 4x with the 3x.

Can you use amazon gift cards to buy gift cards on amazon?
Yes and no. The terms say they don’t want you to, but you can. Anecdotally, they don’t seem to have an issue with buying other third party gift cards with Amazon gift cards other than Best Buy – that one is a big no-no.
Buying the occasional gift card with an Amazon gift card should be fine, but I personally wouldn’t do large volume like that due to the risk of an account shutdown.

I love the 4x promotion. Maybe I am cheap, but I take extra empty gas cans with me and I take advantage of the 35 gallons for a $35 discount. In my mind I buy the cards for MS (Liquidate at WM through MO) and then pay it off. So I only pay 29.75 in fees for (5) $100 cards that gives me $500 worth of MS. After I save $70 ((2) 35 gallon fill ups) in gas, I walk away with making an additional $40.25 in saved gas. Just another way to look at it.
Don’t forget the MO fee. But yes, I do the same. Not cheap but frugal haha.

Just maxed my Freedom out 1.5k spend for the Q got the 4x fuel points. Q3 is a toughie for me 🙁
Heads up for people doing MS with Amex at these stores: certain Krogers (e.g., Fred Meyer, a store that sells a lot of other things besides food) don’t code as “Grocery” with Amex. I learned this the hard way when using my Hilton Surpass at these stores recently.
